The Origami of Waking

By Peter Marcus
Poetry•Vol. XXVII No. 3 (Winter 2014)

My two arms folded
across my chest:

a half-finished owl.

One arm resting along
your naked back:

the sleeping tulip.

The invention of paper
one hundred years after

the crucifixion, shaped
other forms of renewal:

these other frames
in which we meet:

two cranes alighted
in the jade-dark meadow.
